Dana Hines
Hi, I'm Dana. I'm a Registered Counselling Therapist (C) with the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists.
How I Can Help
As a Registered Counselling Therapist (C) in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, I specialize in helping individuals manage anxiety, stress, and overwhelm. I provide a non-judgmental and supportive space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions, gain a deeper understanding of yourself, develop practical coping strategies, enhance your emotional resilience, and overcome the challenges that are holding you back.

Whether you're dealing with emotional distress, a major life change, or feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns, I’m dedicated to helping you improve your mental health and overall well-being.

My Approach
I don't believe in a "one size fits all" approach to therapy, meaning I take into account your individual needs, preferences, goals, personality, challenges, strengths, and life circumstances and work with you to customize a plan that is tailored to you.

I have a natural ability for creating a warm, welcoming environment where people feel comfortable opening up and exploring their uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. With a touch of humour and a relaxed atmosphere, my approach makes people feel at ease, supported, and safe during our sessions.
My Background
I have always been passionate about human growth and development, and personal optimization. My holistic approach to mental health focuses on balancing psychological, physical, and spiritual well-being, while also emphasizing the importance of sleep, nutrition, and exercise. I know firsthand what it’s like to struggle, feel lost, be overwhelmed by emotions, and come out on the other side which is why I’m dedicated to helping others overcome their own challenges.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years working as a bartender and server, where I discovered something invaluable: the stories people share when they feel understood and heard. This experience taught me the power of listening with empathy and sparked my desire to help others on a deeper level.
My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a diploma in Life Coaching, and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I am a licensed member of the Nova Scotia College of Counselling Therapists (RCT-C24-079), and a Professional Member in good standing of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (#11248261). In addition, I’ve received specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a method that helps clients accept difficult emotions while committing to positive actions that align with their values.
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, stress, or feeling stuck in life, I offer personalized therapy to help you break free from cognitive and emotional roadblocks. My counselling therapy services—available in person, by video, or by phone throughout Nova Scotia—are designed to help you build resilience, overcome self-doubt, and improve your mental health and overall well-being.
